Cellule tumorali circolanti nel carcinoma mammario infiammatorio di recente diagnosi

"Circulating tumor cells in newly diagnosed inflammatory breast cancer" - James M.Reuben, Department of Hematopathology, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA - Michal Mego,Comenius University and National Cancer Institute, Bratislava, Slovak Republic - "Patients with stage III IBC had lower CTCs compared to metastatic IBC patients. Our study shows that patients with =1 CTC and =5 CTC had significantly inferior progression-free and overall survival compared to patients with <1 CTC and <5 CTC and suggests a strong prognostic value of CTCs in patients with newly diagnosed IBC. Patients who took statins before the diagnosis of IBC had significantly lower CTC counts than patients not on statins. These data further add credence to the earlier observation that statins might have an anticancer effect, especially in IBC, and warrants additional study".
