Moderate physical activity may help women lower their risk of ovarian cancer
We examined data of physical activity collected by self-administered questionnaires from 442 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 2135 women without ovarian cancer. This study, which was published in the International Journal of Cancer, found that women with the highest level of moderate exercise had a thirty-three percent reduction in risk of ovarian cancer.compared with those with the lowest level. The pattern was similar for both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. The results showed that the protective effect of exercise applied to all patients with ovarian cancer except one specific form called mucinous ovarian tumour, which accounted for 16% of total cases in this study. The benefit of exercise was also observed among women whose jobs were more active than sedentary. However, we did not found a protection of vigorous physical activity against ovarian cancer.
