11C-choline positron emission tomography/computerized tomography is highly sensitive for primary and metastatic transitional cell carcinoma
In the presented study it was shown that combined PET/CT using 11C-choline is more sensitive than standard CT to the presence metastases both in the lymph nodes and in the bones. It seems that we are at the dawn of the era of combined physiologic and anatomic imaging modalities. These modalities may improve our accuracy in clinical staging of localized or regionally advanced cancer. Imaging based on 11C-choline PET/CT for bladder cancer is a step in this direction. It must be remembered however, that the present results are only preliminary. It is our duty as clinicians to study the modalities in an attempt to define the most favorable tracers and protocols of these emerging modern modalities
