Radiotherapy after surgery for stage I endometrial cancer

Radiotherapy after surgery for stage I endometrial cancer showed a survival benefit for high-risk women in a retrospective analysis of over 21,000 patients in the SEER data base.

Radiotherapy was known to improve local control in the pelvis after surgery, but the effects on survival have been debatable from previous clinical trials.

These data suggest there may be a survival benefit for some high risk stage 1 patients.

Future work is needed to define clinical and biological factors which guide treatment decisions in women with stage 1 endometrial cancer.

Radiotherapy should be considered for women with high-risk stage I endometrial cancer.
